From the Lancôme event. Trying to keep busy.

This past Saturday I drew at Valley Fair in San Jose.

It was a Mother's Day event at the Lancôme Boutique.

Here are some of the MUA's.

I was there for 5 hours and probably did less than 20 drawings.

Friday I drew at CSU Stanislaus for 5 hours and drew over 70 people!

Both events were fun.

I sat for an art class last week.

My son said they were supposed to bring someone with them to draw last week. It's a large class 30 or more. About 8-10 extras were there.

These images were drawn in about an hour.

I really liked this image. I particularly liked the treatment on the hair. You can't see it in this. I should have had my regular camera. These were taken with a cell. (BTW - that's "the boy" - my son Matt holding his drawing up.)

This drawing was done by a talented young woman.

When we walked in I felt kinda ambushed. After the instructor gave the night's assignment she said, "Matt's dad is gonna show what he does before we start." I'm not even sure they were listening. I didn't want to demonstrate right before they were going to draw a portrait so I shelved the idea 'til after the break. I sat first and drew later.

Evolution of an Opera image.

I'm working on a couple of Opera Posters for Livermore Valley Opera. I had a meeting with their publicity manager and a previous poster artist a while back. The meeting started with us watching an old Looney Tunes featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd about the Opera. The first image I created needed to be done quickly. They really liked my business card image and were thinking along those lines.

I perused a bunch of photos of myself taken around the same time and had a mad self sketching session.

This image seemed perfect for an opera ...
... so I started developing it.

This was a little too high school musical, but I was having fun with the concept.

This was the image I sent to the client.

He thought it was right on the money. Then he started showing it around ... it was touch and go for a bit ... before I could proceed they asked if I would be willing to make changes and discussed it at a board meeting. It challenged the opera community in that they were used to the work of Carolyn Lord the artist that referred me.

After the suggestions I originally was struggling over how to change it, but feel the changes brought out a better character (after all it's not Sweeney Todd!).

They used this image on the back of the program for the spring season which ended yesterday.
Now I have to color it and possibly add a background.

If you don't know what the image is yet. It's, as the program put it, "... coming in October ... Figaro IS The Barber of Seville!"

A little more background ... my dad's name is Frank and he was a barber ... infact I'm taking my son over to get his haircut by him in a little while.

This was either a 5 or 10 minute sketch. She was fun to draw. The artists were a little too passive and quiet for her. During the quick poses she'd had enough silence and asked if there were any requests. ... ... she blurted out ... "Freebird"! And then gave us her adaptation which entailed the first glimpse of her ... panties. What'd ya think!

Yesterday morning I caught a preview of Act 1.

My daughter's part of the ensemble. She's also the house manager and did a lot of work with the paint
crew leading up to the production.

For Father's Day I was given a certificate for Converse.com; right before Christmas I used it.

These arrived yesterday.

I was afraid ordering them online they'd get here and be tight. The fit is very comfortable.

I never owned or even tried on a pair until my lovely wife and the girl got me some pink one's at Ross in 2006.
My 2nd pair, black with pinstripes, I found at an outlet store in Tracy. I bought a third pair at Ross for $10.00 last summer, a strange kinda fleshy color with a gradation to a brownish purple, that I want to draw on, but I'm unsure if I should do them for me or as an art piece for something?!?

Anyway, WooHoo!!!

Back in July I went to the Projekt Revolution tour with the Boy and the Girl.

My brother in-law, his daughter and her boyfriend were sitting in front of us.

What do you get a 21 year old niece for Christmas? ... well, I decided to take some sketches I did at the concert of her and her boyfriend, shrink 'em down, ink 'em and frame 'em. The finished art was three 4x6" images in an 8x24" frame. They loved it!
